Tape Services

This service is becoming increasingly popular and we are proudly able to offer it. We have a 24 track 2 inch Otari MTR90 MK3, 4 track 1 inch Studer J37, 2 track half inch Otari MTR 12 and a 2 track quarter inch AMPEX AG-440 to accommodate your needs and digitise your tapes.

We also have the ability to prepare old tapes to be safely used with our machines using our baking process. Old tapes, particularly those manufactured by Ampex and Scotch from the 1970s onwards, may suffer from ‘Sticky Shed Syndrome’.  This is where the binder ‘glue’ which adheres the magnetic particles to the plastic tape stock can become ‘gooey’ as it absorbs moisture from the air over time. These tapes need to be carefully ‘baked’ – that is, dehydrated – in order to make them playable again.

Our engineer oversees the whole process so you can trust us with your valuable recordings.

Education

We are keen to teach about the art created in the studio and share our knowledge and passion. We run workshops showcasing the history of the recording industry. These involve a hands-on demonstrative learning experience, starting with vintage tape machines and moving along to the modern-day processes.

These workshops operate as one-on-one or as groups. We often have schools and colleges visit us for this experience. We also offer masterclasses with industry professionals throughout the year with world-class producers and engineers. Our staff are DBS checked and have previous teaching experience.
